Florentine Cake (Schiacchiata alla Fiorentina)

16 tablespoons flour
11 tablespoons sugar
8 tablespoons milk
4 tablespoons peanut oil or olive oil
50 g butter
2 eggs
1 orange
1 bag vanillin (1/2 g)
1 bag yeast (16 g)

1. Sift the flour.

2. Add all the other ingredients in this order: sugar, eggs, milk, oil, melted butter, vanillin, orange (both grated peel and squeezed juice), a pinch of salt, yeast.

3. Mix everything very well.

4. Grease a rectangular pan with butter and sprinkle with breadcrumbs or flour.

5. Put the dough in the pan and bake at 180 degrees for 20/30 minutes.

6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with powdered sugar.


This is the traditional dessert of my hometown, Florence!
