Ladies' finger Soup (Garri and Bitterleaf Egusi Okro)

1/2 litre egusi
200g dried bitter leaf vegetable
300g mushrooms
1/2 kg beef
1 copped onion
1/4 litter of dried cray fish
4 tablespoons palm oil
2 maggi cubes
1 tablespoonsalt
4 tablespoons grind njinger
2 tablespoons grind garlic
4 tablespoons hot chilli
10 fingers okra fruit (Albelmoschus esculentus)
1/4 litre garri

1. To 1 litre of water in a pot, add ginger, garlic, onion, maggi, salt, chilli, beef and steam for 15 minutes under medium heat.

2. Then add egusi and cook for 10 minutes under medium heat.

3. Add mushrooms, bitter leaf vegetable and cook for 10 minuntes.

4. Add Okra and crayfish and cook for 5 minutes under medium heat.

5. Add palm oil and cook for 10 minutes under low heat.

Then it is ready to eat


I have a certain memory connected to the dish. My mother usually cook this dish for me on my birthday because it is one of my favourites.
I learnt to cook this dish in Bonadikombo, Mile 4 Limbe, Cameroon when I was 12 years old. I learnt to cook it from my mother.
The name represents good health. It is believed that children who bed wet, when they consume this meal regularly, the bed wetting stops. Also, it is believed that when pregnant women consumes this meal frequently, it helps them to give birth to the baby easily. It is believed that the soup helps to reduce high blood pressure too.
